The First Metal Miner

In May 2022, Michael Eavis visited the Camerton Community Hall to unveil the first prototype of a metal miner, developed in partnership with the Miners Welfare Trust.

The unveiling marked a significant moment, as the prototype was intended to commemorate the legacy of metal miners in the region.

However, despite the excitement surrounding its introduction, the prototype turned out to be smaller than originally anticipated.

This led to further discussions on how to refine the design and create a more fitting tribute to the miners who played such a crucial role in Somerset’s industrial history.
