3ft metal miner

Spotted in High Littleton – a 3ft metal miner proudly fixed to the side of a house, just a stone’s throw from the former Mearns Coal Mine.

This smaller figure is part of the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust’s efforts to reconnect communities with their mining roots. While the towering 7ft Metal Miners can be found near old pit sites across North Somerset and Bristol, these 3ft versions are starting to appear at people’s homes, helping keep the stories of mining families alive.

From the prototype in Camerton to the group of three by Radstock Museum, the response has been incredible. Now, locals are taking it one step further by bringing a piece of that legacy right onto their own walls.

It’s brilliant to see so much pride in Somerset’s history continuing to grow.
